Do These 3 Things To Reverse Day-Night Confusion
Baby sleeping all day and partying all night?
Here are 3 things you can start doing RIGHT NOW to reverse this trend and help your baby avoid day/night confusion.
So what is day/night confusion?
Day/night confusion doesn’t mean your baby isn’t smart or aware. It just means they’re sleeping too much during the day and not enough at night.
Day/night confusion most commonly affects newborns. Remember, after 9 months in the womb your baby doesn’t really know the difference between day and night yet 😉
However, it is possible for babies and children of all ages to experience forms of day/night confusion.
(Example: a 4 year old takes a three hour nap during the day and then doesn’t go to bed until 11pm, wakes multiple times in the night, and wants to be up for the day before 6am. That is a form of day-night confusion that is quite easily fixed!)
Regardless of the age of your baby, here are the three things to start implementing TODAY to reverse their day-night confusion.
🥱 1. Plenty of sun during the day! Safe light exposure tells your baby’s brain it’s daytime. If the weather is bad, at least open up the curtains. Use shades, hats, umbrellas, or sunscreen if going out into direct sunlight this summer.
🥱 Activity and stimulation during all those brief daytime wakes. Baby wearing, tummy time, infant massage, going outside, eye contact and singing, are all good things to do! Really show your baby that activity is for daytime.
🥱 Swaddle (if age appropriate), white noise, and darkness for all sleeps especially at night!
